Selling a summit to the people who run Australia’s boards.
The Australian Institute of Company Directors needed its 2025 Governance Summit to feel unmissable to an audience that has seen every conference pitch there is. We made two films: a short launch piece built to drive registrations, and a retrospective marking a decade of the summit.
Launch film, 37 seconds.
The Job
The Australian Governance Summit brings more than 1,200 directors and leaders together over two days at ICC Sydney. The 2025 edition ran on 11 and 12 March under the theme Beyond the Horizon.
Two very different films came out of it. The launch film had one job: get the right people to register. The retrospective had another: show the room why the summit matters, by putting ten years of it on screen at once.
The Launch Film
Directors do not need to be told a conference is valuable. They need to see who else is going. So the 37-second launch film is mostly the room: people talking between sessions, a keynote on the main stage, a full auditorium.
It opens on the Harbour Bridge at dusk and an aerial of the city before landing at ICC Sydney, then lets three short supers do the selling: connect with over 1,200 fellow leaders, exclusive insights, over two days. It resolves on the theme and a single instruction, register now.
Every word on screen is doing a job. There is no voiceover and no list of sessions, because neither survives being skipped on a phone.

A Decade of Governance
The second film looks back rather than forward. Ten years of summit footage, from AGS 2016 to AGS 2025, cut into a single three-minute argument about how the director’s job has changed.
Past speakers carry it, each identified with a lower third and the year they spoke. Pull quotes set over aerials of the venue mark the turns, and year markers on the panel footage keep the audience oriented as the decade moves. The themes surface in the speakers’ own words: increasing complexity, geopolitical risk, and the purpose of business.
A retrospective like this lives or dies on selection. Most of the work is deciding what to leave out, so that ten years reads as one story rather than an archive.
“At its core, governance is anchored in strategy, not compliance.”
Catherine Livingstone, AGS 2024, as quoted in the film
